default
Posted on Sat, 14 Feb 2015
Question: Hello Sir. I have a low grade fever of 100.2. I ache in every joint. My eyes are swollen and red rimmed and they burn. It's hard for me to stand or sit for long periods of time. I just want to sleep. And I have diarrhea whenever I eat anything. I'm a heavy person with high blood pressure. Pre diabetes and fibromyalgia. What do I have? I didn't go to work today. I was afraid I catch something else.

Brief Answer:
Observation - evaluation to deterimine cause...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through your post with diligence. You reported that you have fever along with generalised weakness, joint pain and mucosal surface congestion - red eyes/diarrhea.

How long have you been suffering with it? Do you have continuous fever or is it intermittent spikes of fever? Do you have any of these symptoms - cough, vomiting, skin rashes, burning urination/increased frequency of urination?

Well, you definitely have features of infection. Common viruses prevalent in the community is the usual cause of such infection. Are you worried about a particular infection - if yes, what are you worried about?

I suggest you continue resting. You can also take tylenol tablets thrice a day to treat fever as well as joint pains. Lots of fluid and fresh fruits (especially citrus fruits) will keep you refreshed and help fight against infections.

We can discuss further about this situation based on your reply to my questions.

Regards

Hello again. Sorry. I fell asleep :). My temperature is intermittent. It doesn't appear to be continuous. I just took it when I got up and it was only 99.5. I've had the symptoms since Sunday night. My biggest complaint is joint pain and fatigue and diarrhea. I have some muscle pain too. And my eyes are really bothering me. Should I go to work tomorrow or go see my general practitioner? Could it be my fibromyalgia. I don't normally suffer many symptoms from it. Cymbalta has done a good job putting it in remission.

Brief Answer:
Fibromyalgia and cymbalta re not related...

Detailed Answer:
No, the symptoms are not due to fibromyalgia. Neither does cymbalta causes it. Your current symptoms are typical of common viral infections. Having said that other bacterial infection also produce similar symptoms initially.

I feel you will do better if you take a day or two off work and rest well. Should the symptoms continue to pester you, consider visiting your GP. In the meanwhile rest, plenty of fluids, plenty of fresh fruits as well as tylenol will work to relieve symptoms.

Joint pain and weakness sometimes may persist for a few days after fever resolves. Similarly in a few individuals, fever can worsen leading to persistent high grade fever, chills and shivering. You will need blood work up in those cases. I am sure your local general practitioner will know about it.

Do not be worried. You should get better with adequate rest, fluids and other measures suggested by GP.

Hope I have addressed your concerns. I will be pleased to answer follow up questions.
