Question: My daughter has been running a low grade fever for 4 days (99.8-100) Taking Advil does not seem to bring her fever down. She tested positive for strep 48 hours ago and is taking zithrimax (?) because she is allergic to amoxicillan. She does not seem to be feeling any better. Can you please advise...

Irrespective of treatment with antibiotics, Strep throat may take 5-7 days to recover. You would have to be patient about that. Advil (ibuprofen) is supposed to be effective in reducing the temperature if it is given in proper dose. But alternatively Meftal P (mefenamic acid) may be given since it is more effective in reducing fever. But it is a prescription medicine and you might need to get it prescribed by your doctor. Please continue the antibiotic and complete the course since you have started it.
