Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
In normal placental development, the placenta can migrate till 28 week. Since there is low lying placenta even at 29 weeks 6 days scan, it is important to monitor the placenta position till delivery.
Low lying placenta and placenta accreta are two different things. Low lying placenta (commonly referred to as placenta previa) is a term used to denote various positions of the placenta based on its location and if it is covering the mouth of uterus and hindering a normal vaginal delivery. This is a natural occurrence based on location of placenta and there are 4 grades of low lying placenta where grade I is mildest form and grade IV is complete placenta previa.
Placenta accreta is a terminology used where the placenta is adherent to wall of uterus and in rare cases penetrating the uterus and causing an adherence which makes it difficult during expulsion of uterus during delivery. This happens more due to previous caesarean section scar in the woman. This also has many types and names as placenta accreta, placenta increta and placenta percreta.
It is difficult for me to comment on placenta accreta from the image given by you, however low lying placenta is clearly visible.
To say if there is placenta accreta in any of its forms, it is essential to evaluate the placenta on ultrasound and see it from all possible angles before making a conclusion and also certain imaging signs like the area behind the placenta, any lakes in the placenta, increased vascular supply in the placenta and adjacent wall of uterus. These are technical details which are evaluated by the doctor while doing the ultrasound scan.
If no mention of placenta accreta has been made in your report then please be rest assured that you do not have this condition.
The low lying placenta however must be evaluated regularly till the time of delivery and if there is persistent low lying placenta then a caesarean section will be advised for safe delivery.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
