Posted on Wed, 2 Dec 2015
Question: Just had a cat scan and I have a mass in my neck of 2.7 centimeters and another mass under my tongue pressing against it. The mass in my neck has a hard looking cone on the bottom of the mass. Without seeing it do you have any kind of opinion?

Brief Answer:
A chronic infection or malignancy is to be suspected

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The findings of a 2.7 cm lymph node in the neck and another mass below the tongue is to be treated after making a confirmed diagnosis.

2. These findings can be an acute infection, chronic infection or rarely a malignancy.

3. An acute infection is ruled out if there is not much pain and no response to antibiotics.

I strongly recommend that you get a FNAC or biopsy from the neck lymph node to know if there is a chronic infection or malignancy at the earliest.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
