Question: I have regular monthly cycles. If ever I am late it is 3 days maximum. I was put on steroids recently for TOS. It was a week pack. I started them in the beginning of Dec. I finished the pack and on the 9th is my scheduled day to have my period. I did not have my period until the 16th. My period is soo heavy!!! And mucousy. It's never been this bad. In my history of periods. I have been sexualy active and no ccontraceptives are being used except for the pull out method. I have no idea why my period is like this. Help?!

Brief Answer:
THIS MAY BE MENORRHAGIA

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern and I will try to help you.

Having heavy periods but is elongated more than 7 days is called menorrhagia but in your case you may only have excess bleeding .
This may be caused from :
1.the medication that you have used for the treatment of TOS ,like steroids(in rare cases can cause menorrhagia)
2.and/or the hormonal imbalances (If a hormone imbalance occurs, the endometrium develops in excess and eventually sheds by way of heavy menstrual bleeding.)
3.anovulatory cycles

You should be concerned if :
Soaking through one or more sanitary pads or tampons every hour for several consecutive hours
Needing to use double sanitary protection to control your menstrual flow
Needing to wake up to change sanitary protection during the night
Bleeding for longer than a week
Passing blood clots with menstrual flow for more than one day
Restricting daily activities due to heavy menstrual flow
Symptoms of anemia, such as tiredness, fatigue or shortness of breath

You should see a doctor if :

Vaginal bleeding is so heavy it soaks at least one pad or tampon an hour for more than a few hours .

For the moment only if you have two days of excess bleeding and you haven't any other signs and symptoms mentioned above,be calm and add more liquids and iron rich foods in your diet.

All the best
