Hello, dear! Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I am Dr. Meriton. I understand your concern.
Well, your description more goes to a slight damage or a slight luxation of the sterno-xyphoidal joint. If you are worried about maybe you have broken your xyphoid bone, with highest probability this is not what happened. When a xyphoid bone is broken, there are some clinical scenarios that quickly become serious, such as avulsion of the liver capsula, for example. To further lower this worry, I would recommend you to do a plain chest X-ray, to see what is the current condition of the xyphoid bone. If the pain is intolerable, you can have a course of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for five days. But, my opinion is that there is nothing to worry about, and even without medication, this sensation should subside in five to seven days.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. If you have follow-up questions, I would be ready to help. If you do not, please close the discussion and rate my answer. Wish you a good health.
Best regards,
Dr. Meriton

no i don't think there is any breakage or fractures. when i came in contact with the fridge door the pressure only lasted a second or so and was slight. i never fell hard onto it or anything like that.
i just worry about conditions such as costochondral conditions occuring etc.
if the area has been bruised does this heal quickly?
No worries.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again!
Well, if there is a bruise it means there was a leakage of little amounts of blood from the area capillaries. As it happens with all bruises, it takes some days for it to clear, i.e. for the time that figurated elements of blood need the natural time to resorb.
If you do not have any clarifications, close the discussion and rate the answer.
Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton
