Suggest Treatment For Mole On Stomach
Question: I have a question about a mole I've seeked advice here on in the past. The mole pictures I've uploaded show a mole on my side of my stomach that a 18 months ago, I accidentally burned with hair removal chemicals. The second photo shows what the mole looks like today. There has been no change as far shape or size. I've also had an examination about a year ago that a Dermatologist saw no issues on. Does the mole Ive uploaded look normal? Remember one of the pictures ive uploaded is from 18 months ago when I had damaged it by hair removal chemical. The other picture is what it looks like today. The diameter is 1/4 of an inch
img_0433 is the mole from 18 months ago showing the chemical burn
0000_191240 is the same mole as of today.
I'm not even sure if it's mole to be honest. Been there for as long as I can remember.
Ive added one more picture of another spot i have on my stomach with the same kind of pigmentation and same size, just lighter.

Brief Answer:
Is it flat or does it have a raised component?
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have gone through your query and I have also reviewed the Images.
In recent Image it looks fairly normal to me. Is it flat Or does it has a raised component? Can't appreciate this finding in this Image.

The only area where it is slightly raised is where the previous burns marks were. They look like two small scars. I had my wife look at it and compare with the photo from it was burned. And the slight and I mean slight raised area is where the two burn marks were. That's the only raised area. That's pretty much the only evolution of this and was caused by me. Always been a slight brownish/reddish color.
Disregard photo labled 0000_195456. That was only used for comparison purposes. That was from another spot on my stomach.
My last input on this...seriously lol.
Actually to be honest you really really have to feel that it is slightly raised. And only raised on those two small areas were it was previously damaged.

Brief Answer:
I suggest a dermoscopic evaluation
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
If it is raised then I would suggest a dermoscopic evaluation. That is the ideal diagnostic investigation in case of a doubtful pigmented lesion. A dysplastic nevus usually has a central raised component with the rest of the area being flat.
I would not totally disregard the raised areas in this nevus simply as a sequelae to irritation because it seems like it was a superficial erosion long ago (18 months back) and should not leave behind an elevated area.
Regards

I can't really tell if it's raised. I know when I look at in the light I can see the two raised areas and they align with the picture I posted that shows the two wounds.
I know looking at photos nothing can be judged properly. However is this more likely something like a dysplasic nevi rather than something malignant? I've had a dozen irregular moles removed in the past, nothing malignant.
ive enclosed one last picture with better lighting. As you can probably see, I'm a little anxious and dont want to worry over the holiday. The new image is labeled 438. When I originally damaged that area, it was slightly raised also. I essentially burned the area with hair removal cream and scrubbed over it with a loofah, which in return caused the area to have two wounds.
I will follow up with my local dermatologist.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be a displastic nevus rather than melanoma.
Detailed Answer:
Hi. Thank you.
This is definitely a better image. The lesion looks well defined, with regular margins, it seems as if it has a red color in center as compared the periphery which is XXXXXXX Since the area was a little raised in center when you burnt it that makes me think in terms of a dysplastic nevus. Of course, it more likely to be a dysplastic nevus rather than a melanoma.
A melanoma has a definite deeper component along with other distinct features like asymmetry, color vareigation and ill defined margins.
In fact, most of the dysplastic nevus do not turn ever into melanoma and presence of multiple dysplastic nevus is just an indicator of an individuals increased risk for developing melanoma.
Also the number of dysplastic nevi is directly related to increased risk; the more the number of dysplastic nevi the greater the risk. A few dysplastic nevi are not too much to worry. Therefore, it is not even necessary to remove all of the dysplastic nevi. Only those are removed which appear a lot different from the rest of moles Or have changed, while the rest of the moles are just put under regular surveillance to look for any change.
I would suggest a dermatoscopic examination when you return back from holiday, to decide on whether it should be removed or left alone.

Was able to get an appointment with a dermatologist. They said it looked somewhat irregular and leaning towards it being ok since there hasnt been any changes or evolution to it, except for the wound i caused to it. She referred to it as a macule so, there was no elevation to it. Being that I have fair skin they rather play it safe and they removed it. I'll hear back into two weeks and try not to be anxious about it.
irregular meaning the redness in the middle
Being that it isnt raised like I thought. Does that fare better? I should be a pro at this! I've had 8-9 moles removed with 3 of them being moderate. The other were either normal or mild. I know eyes cant give you a detailed look at the pathology. The dermatologist did say she was leaning towards it being okay. Just reiterating that I have fair skin so she doesnt put off removing anything remotely questionable. I guess you can say I was looking for the "it's totally fine" answer from her but I understand that looks can be deceiving but im pretty confident this is nothing malignant.

Brief Answer:
You should not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Yes, definitely it is a good sign if it is not raised. Since you dermatologist had a better opportunity to look at it closely and thinks that it is most likely fine, therefore you should feel relaxed. The biopsy report 2 weeks later would most likely confirm it as fine or just a dysplastic nevus. Not more than that.
