Suggest Treatment For Muscle Spasms, Pain And Swelling In Legs

Question: Hi, I am taking Zokor and in general statins cause me to have muscle spasms so I haven't been on one in quite sometime. With that said, For the past week I have had painful spasms and my doctor told me to stop taking it two days ago I did but the spasms have continued and now I have a leg that feels heavy and painful. I am not walking well either. It is not swollen. I should tell you that I survived a hemorrhage stroke 10 years ago and do most of the things I always did. I live alone and always have. Anyway, my leg is really hurting bad. What do you think? YYYY@YYYY
Brief Answer:
Ions shortage can be the reason.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
The most common reason of such spasms is ions deficiency, especially Magnesium and Potassium deficiency. If so, the spasms should be more intense during the nigh (so you become awaken). You may feel also nervousness and weakness with it.
The other possible reason of such spasms is some spine issue including compression of the spinal cord.
I suggest you to start with Magnesium and Potassium supplementation. Try to limit coffee and caffeinated drinks. If this wont help in few days, please consult neurologist.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

I just wanted to make sure I do not have a clot - I've never had one but Just needed reassurance that I don't have one. Tku
Brief Answer:
Veins thrombosis does not cause any spasms.
Detailed Answer:
Blood clot in the veins (deep veins thrombosis) gives swelling, calf pain, calf hardness. It is usually on one side. Both sides veins thrombosis is possible only in extreme rare cases. And for sure veins thrombosis does not cause any spasms. So this seems hardly possible at your case.
