Suggest Treatment For Myelofibrosis

default
Posted on Tue, 10 May 2016
Question: My husband has been diagnosed with Myelofibrosis. He presented with weight loss & tiredness. Originally he had an enlarged spleen and abdominal mass. We have been working for 3 months on a nutritional therapy and a recent thermal scan showed no activity around the mass. His haemoglobin & platelets are very low, although his white blood cells are within the norm. We are just about to be offered a treatment - what would be the best option - are there any vitamin/nutritional therapies we can work with that will also help?

Brief Answer:
stem cell transplantation is the only definitive treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Treatment of myelofibrosis depends on risk category.

Stem cell transplantation is the only definite treatment but it has many risk and other problems.

So largely treatment based on supportive care.

Falic acid, allopurinol, blood transfusion, hydroxyurea etc can be given as supportive treatment.

Ruxolitinib is newer drug which can be helpful and used frequently nowadays.

These are the main treatment options. Consult your doctor and discuss with him regarding this.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
