Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for your query.
In your post, you have not mentioned about any recent illness, injury to head or ear, history of systemic illness (Diabetes, Hypertension, etc.), intake of alcohol, smoking, medications or drugs in your son.
Under such circumstances, the symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to:
1. Raised blood sugar level (Hyperglycemia). Seems to be the most probable cause as the blood sugar value is 260.
An estimation of fasting & postprandial blood glucose level as well as HbA1c needs to be done to confirm this and rule out Diabetes and prevent any organ damage.
2. Pathology in Vestibular apparatus in inner ear (it is associated with maintenance of body posture & balance) most probably Labyrinthitis or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. Investigations like vestibular function tests will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.
Symptomatic relief can be obtained with intake of Vestibular sedatives like Betahistine or Cinnarizine preparations (to be taken only under the guidance of a Physician)
3. Dehydration and loss of body electrolytes: Mountain dew being a carbonated drink, rich in caffeine further adds to the dehydration and raised blood sugar levels.
Clinical examination is important for diagnosis, so I will advise you to consult your Doctor or visit ER for a proper clinical examination.
In addition to the investigations mentioned earlier, estimation of blood pressure, complete blood count and serum electrolytes will be required to rule out any pathological cause for the symptoms.
There is no need to worry, your son will be fine.
Till then, he should maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status and avoid stress.
And also take precautions of getting up from bed slowly & avoid sudden head movements.
Wishing him a Good Health.
Take care.
