Suggest Treatment For Neutropenia

Question: 14 months ago I was diagnosed with neutropenia. I have had neutropenia/leukopenia for 14 months and then anemia 3 months ago. I received 2 iron transfusions. I don't know why I have this problem. My other lab tests that are off are b12 is 2000, with range of 300-1200. My Alkaline Phosphatase is always low and my creatine clearance and BUN are high. What can be going on. And why does my hematologist think this just "normal" for me?

Brief Answer:
Iron deficiency was there

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

Anemia could be explained by iron deficiency. Your iron saturation was definitely low. Hence you received iron infusion and that should take care of the anemia.

The leucocyte low can't be explained by iron deficiency. B12 is also not low. High b12 is not of much concern. As it persists over 14 months, it can be a mild bone marrow defect.

I would suggest a bone marrow aspiration to look for bone marrow defects like myelodysplasia.

Hope this helps.
Regards
