Suggest Treatment For Nose Bleeds And Migraine In A 7 Year Old
I won't get worried if there is no dizziness or fainting attack
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Nose bleed is a very common complaint in this age group.
Common causes are dry and cold climate leading to dryness of nasal mucosa, nose picking or allergic rhinitis.
In few cases exact cause could not be found.
In children it is mostly benign, self limiting condition and does not causes heavy blood loss or any serious problem.
I won't get worried if there is no dizziness, sweating or fainting attack due to excess blood loss.
There is a chance of recurrence so I would like to give you few tips to control the bleed.
Avoid dry environment (like using heat blower)
Avoid nose pick as it is a very common cause in this age.
If there is nasal bleed don't get panic.Sit with slight leaning forward to avoid swallowing of blood.Pinch the nose for 5-10 minutes.
Once bleeding stops avoid blowing, sneezing or picking of crust.
Continue allergy medication, humidifier and nasal moisturiser to prevent further episode.
You have mentioned that your daughter is suffering from migraine. If she is taking any NSAID like ibuprofen avoid it as it may precipitate the bleed by platelet dysfunction. Use tylenol (acetaminophen ) as it is a safer medicine.
Consult your physician if bleeding continues or there is any dizziness or fainting episode.
Take all these precaution and don't worry as it is self limiting condition in most of the cases.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more doubts.
