Suggest Treatment For Pain And Sensitivity Caused By Cracked Foot

Posted on Mon, 23 Nov 2015
Question: I am having a problem on the bottom of my feet there are 2 long splits on the soft skin and various small splits on top in the rough skin, these long splits are very sensitive and hurt when walking so I stopped walking as much as possible, using a cream for splits all the time this does not seem to work much as a way of healing after more than a week but I also stupidly used alcohol as a way to disinfect. I am not sure what to do now. This is kinda scary for me as I can't find anything similar online.

Brief Answer:
Use foot pads, emolients and keep moist

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

It is sad to know about what you had been suffering from. Here are few measures which will help you.

Use emolients like a solution of 50 percent liquid paraffin and 50 percent vaseline, thrice daily and keep them moist.

Use foot pads, in the shoes to absorb pressure effects to maximum. Use soft shoes.

Dips in XXXXXXX warm saline water for 15-20 min daily

If any discharge or pus is found, consult a dermatologist for antibiotics topical, or oral. Antifungal creams may also be needed. For pain and swelling you can use anti inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you dont have any more questions, please close the discussion. You can also reach me directly through my profile in future, in case of any more questions, Regards.

thanks you so much for the advise.
-Would it be good to prevent walking as much as possible or all together? which I trying to do now. it seems like in such a bad place, no rough skin there and painful and sensitive when moving finger over it
-Would using bandage do any good after the emolients?
-how about using betadine as a ways to disinfect, is this needed to prevent infection as the skin has been cut into?

Could you also explain what you mean by foot pads? I find a few things ranging from inlay soles to detox pads

Brief Answer:
Rest, latex or rubber soles and betadine should be used

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Thanks for sharing your concerns. Yes, you figured it out right. Rest can be good and restrict mobility. Using betadine solution is indicated if the cuts show any signs of inflammation or puss but clean it after usage as it can act as local irritant and apply emolients afterwards. The choice of pads should be for the full length soles which can fit in whole length of your shoes and it can be of rubber or latex. Few gel pads are also available. Simple rule in this regars is, More soft and shock absorbing the pad is, more effective will it be. Get it reviewed with a dermatologist if issue persists.

Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you dont have any more questions, please close the discussion. You can also reach me directly through my profile whenever you wish so. Regards.

Thank you so much again for the advise, I will add it to the other stuff I found to treat this. One thing I just found is to use superglue to put into the cracks/split under my feet. This is supposed to be similar to glue used in hospitals for cuts. I will discuss this with my house doctor and hope to see a dermatologist as well. May I finally ask you for your opinion on this? If this is worth trying and if so would it be suitable for the rough skin as well as the smooth skin under the foot.
Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Yes you can use these

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Thanks for sharing the details. Yes yiu can use these glues if nothing else seems to work out and these are specialised glues also used by plastic surgeons for skin grafts or wound closures and these can be used to fill in cracks and to hold the margins together.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask else kindly close the discussion. You can also reach me directly through my profile in future, in case of any more queries. Regards.
