Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In The Knee
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hello,
I am a 38 year old female with knee pain and swelling. The swelling seems to go above the knee into the thigh and below the knee as well. So much so that at times you can visibly see a difference in leg size when comparing the two. I can extend it without much pain, but bending it is painful and it feels stiff because of the fluid. I don't remember injuring it. I've had an x-ray which showed mild degeneration. I also had an ultrasound to check for blood clots as I have a history of blood clot in the same leg three years ago. The ultrasound was negative. Is it just arthritis causing this much pain and swelling or could it be something else?

Brief Answer:
I would suggest you to get MRI
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think you are having knee synovitis and not arthritis. Your age is not of knee arthritis. I would suggest you to get MRI of the knee joint as most probably you are having a meniscus tear. After MRI if you are having knee synovitis or fluid collection then it can be treated with knee arthroscopy. Also there is need of following blood tests.
1.CRP, ESR and Ra factor
So get these tests and MRI to confirm the diagnosis. You can share your your reports with me. I will try my best to help you.
Thanks
