Question: I had a pain med dr. who discharged me for having thc in my urine test. Although I did not smoke I was around those that did. I went to a new pm dr. that I lied to because I knew my drug screen would be dirty and didn't want to take the test. This dr. has written an unsavory note and warned drs. not to prescribe my needed meds formy spinal stenosis. I am clean now and will remain clean. Seeing a new dr. that a saw 3 yrs ago in pain management and a different affiliation. How should I approach this new visit? Will he be able to see the negative comments of the dr. I was dishonest with? I do need help but don't want to go about this in the wrong way.

Brief Answer:
It's probably better to undergo Spinal Surgery and solve the problem...

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.

Since you are in pain due to spinal stenosis and tried several drugs, morphine included, it is difficult for you to have benefits from other drugs once you have seen the effects of morphine. It is very probable that your records are registered so your next consultant will see the previous comments.

I recommend to begin the history with telling to the doctor the truth. At this point I still doubt you will have a proper pain treatment. So, I encourage you to treat the main problem causing you pain, which is the spinal stenosis. It is a simple surgery with very good results.

Hope this answers your questions, I wish you good health.

Best regards.

When you say the records are registered what does that mean?. The last dr. threatened me and said he would make sure no one prescribed these types of meds to me again. Does this mean no matter who I see the end result will be the same for relief? Should I even bother seeing another pain med dr? I have fibromyalgia as well and the lyrica doesn't work but the tramadol does and the dr. I am going to see has prescribed this before. Now I am worried I cannot even get relief from this either? Should I just cancel my appointment? Do you think being totally honest about what happened with my new dr. would help in any way? So this dr. can let any dr.in the state see this record legally?

Brief Answer:
Honesty is the best policy - XXXXXXX XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

If your last doctor said he will make possible that other doctors do not describe you that drug anymore, probably he can do that. Though, I doubt if he is allowed to do so, because physicians are obliged to refrain from divulging confidential information. Physicians are also obliged to help cure their patients. No one will keep you suffering on purpose or to punish you.

Still, I recommend you to tell your doctor the truth because there is nothing to hide in your need for pain meds. THC should have been excluded from your body in a week time.

But, in my opinion getting opioids was a mistake. At this point you need to treat the disease causing pain, i.e the stenosis with surgery if there is radiological correlation and amitriptyline can be used for the fibromyalgia.

Hope this helps.
