Question: my 5 year old daughter all of a sudden started crying complaining that her left lower ribcage area was hurting, I lifted her shirt to check and noticed her left ribs were sticking out much more than the right then I turned her to see her back and noticed her right side waist had a curve but the left side is straight, I this an emergency situation or can she wait to see her doctor on Monday?

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that your daughter has her left ribs were sticking out much more than the right .You also noticed her right side waist had a curve but the left side is straight. I think these are congenital (since birth) variation. However you have to get it confirmed by clinical examination and x ray etc. It is not an emergency situation and she can wait to see her doctor on Monday. But her left lower ribcage area was hurting. Icing will be helpful.Analgesic such as ibuprofen will relieve pain. However if she has fever or difficulty in respiration, then it need immediate attention keeping in mind of lung infection. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.
