Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Wrists And Thumb
arthritis of the thumb and wrist
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
I am sorryt o hear that you are experiencing pain at the base of the thumb and wrist area. the most likely problem is arthritis. The first place arthritis hits is the base of the thumb and wrist. the reason it has started after the new iPad is the change in your typing habits and that is putting more stress on the joint. You can take medications like tylenol or NSAIDs like ibuprofen. These medications will help the pain but will not change the course of the arthritis. We have absolutely nothing that will halt or reduce the progression of osteoarthritis. Use of topical medication will help to an extent but again will not change the course. I would also recommend not using the iPad and going back to your desk top and regular keyboard as this may reduce joint stress.
I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
Arthritis
Detailed Answer:
The usual course of the condition is increasing pain some swelling and redness to the joint and eventually destruction of the joint with joint deformities. As long as you stay active with your hands there will be very little disability to the fingers. If you stop doing things with your hands and fingers that is when the deformities actually get worse. The course is over years and decades so this is not going to change things right now. Treatment is pain control. This type of arthritis is called osteoarthritis
