Suggest Treatment For Pain In Wrist Post Injury

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Feb 2015
Question: I just keep asking question after question regarding my right wrist (distal radius) fracture.
I'm 10 weeks from my injury - just saw my ORTHO last Tuesday, and he told me my injury had healed (based on an x-ray that day).
He recommended that I use my wrist as much as possible to accelerate the healing.
I type and write a lot at work and by the end of the day it really aches.
Should I be concerned?

Start regular exercise and movement

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned that after having a fracture of your radius and being cleared by your surgeon that you are having pain and aching at the end of the day from typing and writing. This is really to be expected. Your wrist has not been moving much over the past few weeks and the tendons and muscles are stiff from inactivity. Now that you are moving again the tendons are stiff and need extra effort to move around. The total recovery from this should be another few weeks. Keep the wrist moving otherwise you will only delay your recovery even more. To help reduce some of the achiness I recommend that you try some Tylenol and alternate that with ibuprofen. The combination may help reduce your symptoms and aid in recovery.

In summary
1. Achiness to be expected
2. Continue working and moving the wrist
3. Try Tylenol and ibuprofen to reduce pain

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care concerns and questions
