Posted on Mon, 8 Dec 2014
Question: Last week had pain on outside of left knee. Exact cause unknown. Exercise class or possible twist of knee?No instant pain just awoke with Instability off and on for about 5 days. Knee issue diminished. Left calf now has a tired, achy feeling mostly when lying down or sitting. Better when walking. NSAID helps but concerned that could be DVT? No swelling, redness or local tenderness.

Brief Answer:
Less likely to be DVT.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The mild achy feeling in the left calf is more likely to be due to a decreased fluid and electrolyte intake or thyroid deficiency rather than DVT. It is better to drink sufficient fluid and also see that your intake of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium ) is sufficient. You can drink Oralyte for this.
To get relief from the pain and for quick healing:
1. Do hot fomentation at the site.
2. Apply local anti-inflammatory gel 2-3 times a day.
3. Take anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and local swelling or inflammation.
In case the pain is acute with local swelling and the throbbing is persistent then do consider consulting your physician for a direct examination.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to the shot.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If you had a flu shot recently then the muscle ache can be due to the shot. Just give it some time and it will be better soon. If there is tenderness in the thigh then you can do a hot fomentation there.
Hope my answer is helpful.
