Question: I hit my hand into the side edge of a table right at the base of the thumb/palm on my right hand. It swelled and after icing, developed into a painful bump. I can't move it very much now and it's throbbing. Do you have any ideas on what it might be?

Brief Answer:
Fracture is possible. X-ray is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Thank you for the query.

Such symptoms after an injury can be caused by bone fracture. Swelling, pain and moving problems are typical symptoms of a fracture.
Soft tissues contusion without a fracture is also possible. Unfortunatelly the only way to confirm or rule out fracture is an x-ray.

I suggest you to consult your doctor and have an x-ray done. In case of fracture splint or even a surgery might be necessary.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards
