Brief Answer:
ASAP- before a dreaded complication

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I would like that your husband reads this answer.

There are certain basic rule of everything in life including the ones for us Surgeons. Say, a Thumb rule.

Painful hernia has to be operated, at the earliest, as the complications can be life threatening if not operated within 6 hours of obstruction. You can not be lucky every time it pains and the gurgles to go back in abdomen.

Pain is already a complication. The further one is incarceration and next one is strangulation meaning the bowels get entrapped and if not released in time will be devitalized and be removed to get the life back.

And the time then taken ( after a surgery for complication can be weeks or months- not a few weeks of rest after the routine one) can be very long.

THANK YOU! :-) We really appreciate your help. Do you think the swelling in his legs has to do with Hermia or a seperate issue. I think.he will respond well to your advice. I will keep you posted if his health.

Brief Answer:
may be a separate issue.

Detailed Answer:
Swelling in the legs is usually a separate issue; you say he is a workaholic and the only printer at his work. This may probably be the reason. Ask him to keep the legs ( heels should be higher than the heart level in lying down position) above the heart level when he is resting in bed. Surgeon would definitely take care before the surgery.
