Suggest Treatment For Painful Sunburns On Both Legs

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I was at the beach two days ago in the sun for about 7 hours and am Sunburnt on both legs from toes to just above knee... My joints are very sore to move and walking is incredibly painful. I don't see any blisters but do have lots of little red spots on top of one foot. I'm in the UK and the temperature for the day was about 25 degrees Celsius. What can I do and how long will the pain take to go?

Home remedies and medication

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare

Thanks for the query.

I have read your query and understood your problem.

I can empathise with your suffering of these sunburns which is quite a pain. I will do my best to offer you advice for you to find relief.

You can try home remedies as follows -

(1) Apply cold compress to all the painful areas for about three times a day.

(2) You can apply soothing Lactocalamine or Aloe vera gel formulation to the
sunburnt areas.

(3) Keep well hydrated with 1-2 litres of water daily. This helps keep the skin cool and prevent deeper burns and also improves blood supply and healing to the skin.

(4) If any blisters form over the burnt skin, do not break them.

(5) Keep the sunburnt areas exposed to air and avoid wearing constricting or tight clothing.

(6) Keep out of the sun.

(7) You can sit in front of the air conditioner or table fan to help offer some relief to the burning pain.

(8) If any sores develop, you can apply Fucidin (Fusidic acid) ointment or Silver sulfadiazine ointment like Burnol to the affected areas to prevent infection.

You can also take NSAID pain killers like Tab. Ibuprofen 200mg twice a day which will help in reducing the inflammation in the skin and offer significant relief.

This will take atleast 7 days for you to experience relief. If at any time you feel that it is getting worse, you must visit a Dermatologist to rule out any complications.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thanking you.
