Suggest Treatment For Painful Swollen Bump On Thumb Near Knuckle

Posted on Mon, 8 Sep 2014
Question: I awoke to a small bump on my thumb near the knuckle. Throughout the day it has become increasingly more painful and swollen. I'm not aware of injuring it. Just recently it's a little tingly down my thumb. Should it be okay to wait until morning to see a doctor? ER price is very high here.

Brief Answer:
you can wait till morning

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to health care magic forum.
I understand your concern.
If injury is ruled out, this indicates a soft tissue infection. This needs treatment with antibiotics and analgesics for a few days.Your doctor will guide you in this.you may be asked for an x ray.

There is no much danger in waiting for few hours for your appointment. Meanwhile you can use simple analgesics like ibuprofen (if not allergic to) for pain control. Keeping the limb in an elevated position also will help in pain relief.

Hope I have answered your question.
Wishing for a faster cure.
Regards, Dr Aslam.
