Suggest Treatment For Painful Swollen Bump Over A Vein On The Wrist
Put ice on, elevate, take NSAIDs for pain.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
I am sorry to hear about your bump!
If you are able to move your hand in normal range of motion, and have normal ability to feel things in your fingers, then consider the recommendations I've written below. But if not, or if that bump feels like bone that has been displaced then you should get X-rays done quickly.
Otherwise, treatment is to apply ice intermittently for the first 48 hours. You can use a bag of frozen peas or a cold pack, and put it on the bump for 20 minutes at a time, then leave off for at least an hour. Repeat this several times a day. But do put a cloth or thin towel between you and the ice pack so you don't frostbite you skin. The ice decreases inflammation and pain.
Also elevate your wrist as much as possible, preferably above the level of your heart, but if that is uncomfortable, any elevation is better than letting it hang down, which may increase swelling and pain.
Once you start using your wrist again, support it by wrapping with an ace wrap, or other compression type wrap.
You can take ibuprofen 3x/day to decrease inflammation and pain, but take it after you have food in your stomach so it doesn't irritate your stomach lining. And only take it if you have no history of abnormal bleeding or stomach ulcers.
I hope this information helps.
