Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: I'm having a molar extracted and I've suffered panic attacks in previous procedures. This will be a surgical extraction. As my dentist doesn't use IV sedation he plans to give me .25 mg of Halcion. Your thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Anti anxiety pills like Traizolam can be given

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

This is Dr XXXXXXX jaiswal answering your query. I have gone through your medical history and I feel as you have had panic attack during dental procedure. It is better you go for an oral sedation what we call as antianxiety pills or happy pills. Most commonly drugs from benzodizepine family is used like Diazepalm, lorazepalm, midazolam or Triazolam.

Halcion contains Triazolam. It's a very popular drug for oral sedation in dental procedure instead i.v. sedation.
Triazolam can cause memory loss but in case of higher doses and prolonged use. The dose you are talking about will not cause any problem. It's better to take the drug 1hr before the procedure and a intermittent dose if needed. Don't get panic as dental extraction is a safe procedure and every thing will be just fine.

Hope this answer satisfy your query.
If you have any further query feel free to ask.

Regards
Dr. XXXXXXX
