Parietal Painful Bump on Head?Boil with Abscess.
Detailed Answer:
Provisional Diagnosis-Parietal Painful Bump on Head?Boil with Abscess.
Hi,Dear, thanks for the query to HCM virtual Clinic.
I studied your query to the full details updated from you.
I understood your health concerns.
Update more information as follows-
The problem of bump on the head seems to be lately becoming worst. But before I could advise you on it,I would need following information-
How long the bump is present? How long the it has become painful to touch?
Is the pain of throbbing type?Any feverishness in last few days time?
Any history of trauma at the parietal region while combing in the last few days time?
Any lump was there before this bump came up?
Since when the swelling is noticed by you?Since when the bump is getting bigger to the top of the head?
It will be nice, if you can upload a photo of it.
What did your doctor say on the last visit you had?
Any medicines are being taken after doctor's visit?
Any other past medical illness(like diabetes) you have?
Any tests are done by your doctor?
Cause of the health problems you queried-
Prima facie as the bump is painful to touch and sometimes with pains without touching it lately, the lump appears to be of infective origin.
As it has grown in size lately and as the pain has grown, your contention that it is caused by the bug bite, is wrong from the above facts.
I would be able to opine in more details after I get the above information from you.
Treatment-
I would advise about the final treatment Only after I get the above information as I am totally blind about the above points.
Hence I would advise you to consult your ER Surgeon.
Check out your FBS (Fasting Blood Sugar)and PPS(Post-meal Blood Sugar) and Complete Blood test
With the limited information with me,I would suggest following treatment under prescription from your doctor-
Cold packs / or Icing of the lump to reduce its pain and its size
Anti-inflammatory medicines/Antibiotics -so as to control its complications if need be .
Send if any of your doctors reports / blood tests / and the X-ray skull /USG of the lump is done.
You should act fast as the bump is growing on top of your head.
Hope this would help you to plan treatment with your doctor and take care of the lump you have.
Hope this would resolve your query to your full satisfaction.

Painful bump on Parietal Head?post bug bite?with Perifolliculitis Scalp
Detailed Answer:
Final Impression-Painful bump on Parietal Head?post bug bite?with Perifolliculitis Scalp (with ?Abscess to be confirmed by CT /or X-ray skull)
Hi,Thanks for your detailed updates which cleared many facts for the cause of the growing bump on top of your head. The missing link added was the face swelling after 1 week of the parietal bump.
Impression after the updates-
In the background of the doctor's visit and her opinion on it,
with consideration of the bump on the parietal region with swelling of the face after a week of that parietal lump, and painful lump increasing to top of head,
your parietal head lump seems to be cause after a bug bite, which has later on caused spreading cellulitis, due to the super-added infection of the head scalp tissue.
This infection has been causing a throbbing pain without fever in last 2 days time ,due to deep cellulitis and perifolliculitis of the head scalp.
This perifolliculitis in the parietal scalp tissue has spread and has developed in to swelling of the face after 1 week of the first Parietal lump.
The first Parietal lump, which is painful to touch from day one,(as submitted and re-affirmed from you in second reply,) confirms to ME that the initial parietal lump was caused by some insect bite ? and or/ bug bite.
That first painful lump has spread out to top of the head over 2 weeks due to the perifolliculitis caused by the superadded bacterial infection. This cellulitis due to perifolliculitis of the head lump, lately in last 2 days has caused the throbbing pain in the spreading head lump.
This perifolliculitis, being a deep tissue infection has not caused any fever in your case yet,but there is every risk of it being associated with deep scalp abscess resulting from the deep perifolliculitis of the top of the scalp.
Treatment Suggested-
A ER Surgeon's second opinion is very much a need of your case as there is facial swelling since last 2 weeks and as the parietal swelling has spread to top of your head with a throbbing type of pain,(which suggests a pyogenic or the abscess activity in the lump )for last 2 weeks of its growth.
Hence I would advise CT / OR X-ray skull which would fix the nature of the disease(pyogenic or cellulitis) which is responsible for lump's spread to top of your head.
Hope, this detailed reply would help you and your treating doctor in planning treatment either by Incision and Surgical drainage of the pent up abscess if any.
/ and OR, If there is no abscess and only cellulitis due to perifolliculitis of the scalp of the head-
Anti-biotics /anti-inflammatory with anti-histaminics would resolve the face swelling and scalp swelling and the head lump in few day time.
Simultaneous High protein diet and fluids would support early healing over the treatment period.
Hope this would resolve your query to your full satisfaction.
