Brief Answer:
Possibility of allergy or continuing infection might be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX mf,
Thanks for writing in.

I have read through your query in detail.
A cough that was dry to start with and transformed to a wet cough can be a bacterial infection. Such a cough lasting for 3 weeks should not be neglected.

Taking cough syrup and ginger honey will reduce your symptoms and make you feel better for sometime. However if there is an infection in the respiratory tract then it need complete evaluation and diagnosis confirmation.

The possibility of an allergic cough might also have to be considered keeping in mind the environment you live in.

The chest X ray if recently done and is clear then it shows there is no serious lung infection. If the X ray was done more than a week back then its possible the infection was still in early stages.

I suggest you consult your doctor again and discuss your cough which has been there for more than 3 weeks. More tests might be required to confirm the diagnosis. You might also talk about the possibility of an allergy or a continuing bacterial infection in your respiratory tract. Your immunity might be strong and that is the reason the infection is still mild.

Please stay away from dusty and allergic environment.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
