Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dizziness And Profuse Sweating

Posted on Wed, 21 Dec 2016
Question: I had some type of blurry/dizzy spell today at work. The room was spinning and I thought I was going to pass out. I then started to sweat profusely and become very nauseous. Took about 30 minutes for the dizziness to pass. Still nauseous after 4 hours. This is the third time this has happened. Once a couple months ago and once about 5 years ago.

Brief Answer:
Need examination AND basic labs including blood and urine

Detailed Answer:
Good evening and thank you for your question. Sorry that has been happening.

Obviously, this is is not a normal situation and for it to have come on 3x so far means that it is time you have a doctor examine you. First and foremost a physician should conduct a thorough physical examination including a review of any medications you may be taking as well as appropriate labs done in both the serum as well as urine to be sure nothing is lacking in those basic arenas.

But assuming the basics have been covered and come back as unremarkable then, I recommend you be seen by an ENT specialist since your symptoms are highly consistent with a condition known as Meniere's disease. In this condition there is often a significant ringing in the ear and vomiting that accompanies the nausea. There is also a hearing loss that can be measured in the affected ear.

If an ENT examination fails to reveal enough symptoms or evidence for Meniere's disease then, I would suggest a neurologist take a look at you and that they check for a seizure disorder as well as getting an MRI of the brain to rule out the possibility of some type of mass or area of abnormality that could explain these symptoms which likely would be in the brainstem or in the ventricular system.

If I've adequately answered your questions could you do me a huge favor by CLOSING THE QUERY and being sure to include some fine words of feedback along with a 5 STAR rating if you feel my suggestions have helped? Again, many thanks for posing your questions and please let me know how things turn out.
