Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dizziness, Tinnitus And Fatigue

Question: What can be wrong with my 46 yr old divorced son. For the last 10 years or so, he has complained of being light headed, dizziness, malaise and ringing in the ears. He has been to allergists, primary care, ear nose throat specialists, you name it. He's had extensive tests for just about everything privately and in hospital, and everything comes back "normal". His allergy test eos is about 10. He's gotten rid of new furniture that has chemicals in it, got rid of rugs in the house, gotten the air ducts cleaned and has no dust in his room. Now he even shut the air vents where the air conditioning and heat comes out of. He's allergic to mold, cats. As far as I know, there is no mold in the house and we have no pets. He's taken Benedryl and other antihistamines, but they don't seem to help. He's moved from apartments many times and bought a condo, then sold it as he didn't feel good in there also. He lives with us now, his parents, and is still complaining. If extensive tests and blood work comes back normal, what could be wrong with him? As a mother, I am very worried about him. Does he need to see a psychiatrist, go on medication or what? I believe him.
Brief Answer:
Although his ailment might have an organic basis, he still needs to cope
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic.
I have gone very carefully through your query. It seems that your son has some unidentified allergy. But we need to adapt to our situations and accept the problems that come along. He definitely needs to see both a psychiatrist as well as a psychologist who would be able to take a closer look at his case and would help him cope better with his situation.
It is hard to suggest medication without careful evaluation of the details. I would insist you to restrain from any new medicine as of now. Let the psychiatrist do his evaluation first and you can contact me back thereafter.
Regards

Dr. Thank you for your input. Although I believe my son, I do agree that he needs to see a psychiatrist to talk to and to help him learn how to cope with his situation. Allergies or not, he still needs a professional since this situation is all he thinks about. You gave me good advice. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Glad to be of service
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I appreciate your response. Allergies or not, he does need support and if our coping mechanisms are strong, we can bridge over situations that are even tougher.
I am sure that some reasonable solution would be reached. Feel free to write back to me in case you ever have any further queries and I would be glad to help.
