Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dry Cough

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: My daughter is 3 years old and gets frequent episodes of constant dry coughing. Doctors say that it is allergic. She is also on inhalers but nothing seems to work for long. Whenever we give her Omnacortil or Corex it would work. But as we know Omnocortil is steroids and Corex has codeine. How come these work and no other cough syrup or inhaler works. Can you please suggest?

Brief Answer:
She needs counseling combination of antihistamine and anti allergic drugs.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your daughter's situation and problem.
She is having allergic cough mostly.
Omnacortil is steroid and suppress inflammatory reaction due to allergy and hence suppress cough.
Codeine is centrally acting cough suppressant. It causes inhibition of cough center in brain. So cough signals are inhibited and hence cough is prevented.
But, both of these are not safe for children.
So should not be given for long time.
Better to start oral combination of antihistamine and anti allergic drugs.
Both are safe for long term use and having excellent results.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wishing good health to your daughter.
Thanks.
