Suggest Treatment For Persistent Fever, Headache And Allergy Symptoms

I m 34 years old male from XXXXXXX XXXXXXX I am a regular smoker. I avoid eating anything cold since I tend to get sore throat, cough, cold fever etc. A month back, I had a cold beer by mistake and ended up with sore throat. With Betadine gargling and Benadryl cough syrup, it became of within 10 days. I was healthy after that for another week or so without any signs of cough, cold or fever.
A week after this, while working out in the gym, I felt very exhausted. I went home and took rest. A day after that, I started having this mild headache and fever. It came and went multiple times in the day. I consulted a doctor and I was prescribed, Sumo Cold tablets, Nervijen tablets and anti-biotics. I didn't feel better after taking it for 3 days. I went to another general physician. He advised me to take up various tests. All the reports were normal including my chest X-ray. Only Eosinophils count was 9% which was higher than the accepted range. The doctor recommended me Taxim O tablets with Calpol to be taken in case of fever. I took it for 4 days and I was getting better. However, I was not completely ok and decided to see a Pulmonorologist as I experience very minor occasional chest pain at times. I was asked to take up lung test which came clear. She opined that I may be having an allergy and recommended Montek LC tablet for 5 days and some other capsule to be put in boiling water for inhaling with steam. Its 5 days since I have been taking that and I am still not feeling ok.
My mild headache and occasional fever is still persisting. I am really worried since I have planned a vacation starting from 15th August. Kindly suggest what I should do.
Control smoking and continue medication
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
You are prone to environmental dust and house dust causing allergic symptoms as your eosinophil count is 9 %. Montek LC and steam inhalation are the correct medications to decrease respiratory symptoms arising out of allergy. Taxim-O and other antibiotics might have been given for a secondary bacterial infection.
Due to seasonal changes, you might also have contracted a viral flu which is responsible for mild fever and headache. The main precaution you may take is to stop smoking for a week or 15 days and allow your airways to get back to normal.
As you are about to go on a vacation, I suggest you please control your smoking habits and discuss your vacation plan with y our pulmonologist and take Montek LC for a longer duration if necessary. Also protect yourself from pollution and extremes of climate.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
