Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: Hi Doctor, my daughter (12 years) is having fever since last night. Temperature was at 101 at 10 pm and she took a crocin at 11pm. But I don't think the fever came down. Around 12 also she had fever and now at 103. Can I give her one more crocin tablet now so that the fever could be under control until we could consult a doctor in the morning? What should be the minimum time gap between two doses of crocin?

Brief Answer:
Try Meftal P

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections and antibiotics are ineffective in such cases. Irrespective of use of antibiotics, it usually spontaneously resolves in 5-7 days.
If your child is otherwise active and playful, I would not be concerned.

If your child has fever with temperature more than 100°F, you need to give paracetamol (P-250, Crocin) to bring down. If paracetamol is not effective in bringing down the temperature, you need to use Meftal-P (mefenamic acid) which is more effective. The minimum gap between two doses of Crocin is 4-6 hours. The doses of Crocin and Meftal P are independent of each other. Minimum gap between doses of Meftal P is 6-8 hours. Also use tepid sponging.

Please be patient, it should spontaneously resolve in 5-7 days.

Hope that helps.

Regards
