default
Posted on Wed, 1 Feb 2017
Question: I had gone to local ER last Sunday for lower abdominal pain. I had ekg, blood work and catscan done. At end of visit ER Doctor said "everything was ok" and was either a very minor bowel obstruction or minor abdominal muscle strain.

Pain still remained so I the following Tuesday evening I stopped at an urgent care enter. The pain was more localized to my right lower back. I was most comfortable sitting or lying didn't when trying to stand back up their is a sharp stiffness. They gave me more blood work and X-ray. The doctor basically to,d me nothing definitive shows up.

I'm just disappointed that these two places cannot give me a more definitive answer to my pain

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
To recapitulate: Male/55 - to ER last Sunday - pain in lower abdomen - EKG, Blood CT okay - told as either minor bowel obstruction or abdominal muscle strain - pain remained hence to Urgent Care - pain localized to right lower back - sharp stiffness on getting up - comfortable sitting or laying - nothing definitive on blood and X-ray - disappointed as could not get answer to the pain ...

Please give additional information:
Whether any symptoms related to intestinal or urinary system?
Any referred pain in the abdomen at the moment?
Is there local tenderness?

This looks to be muscular spasm of the muscles of right lower back.
I would advise you the following:
Any other anti-inflammatory than Ibuprofen that suits you.
Local Rubrafacient liniment that gives local warmth and relaxes muscle.
Steroids in oral form may be tried.
Painkiller that suits you- but needs a prescription.
Strict Bed-rest...
Review with a Doctor for clinical evaluation, examination and investigation if required.
