Suggest Treatment For Persistent Nose Bleeds And Muscle Strain

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Jan 2017
Question: I have had a nosebleed (left nostril) every day or 2 since January 4. I had been taking a Rx for 800 mg, 3 times per day of ibuprofen, for a muscle strain until Dec. 30. Then I continued with a low OTC amount until the morning of XXXXXXX 9. Could ibuprofen have caused the nosebleeds? Should they stop now that I stopped the ibuprofen? I have respiratory allergies, and stopped Flonase spray in that nostril when the nosebleeds started.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Yes, one very common side effect of ibuprofen is a nose bleed, which results due to the blood thinning effect of ibuprofen.

The nose bleeds can continue for a while even after the discontinuation of ibuprofen due to the effect that ibuprofen has on the nasal cavity. If at all the nose bleeds continue, then you should visit a doctor who will choose to cauterize the bleed, which should result in discontinuation.

The allergies can at times prevent the healing process, so speak to your doctor for appropriate prevention sir. I hope I have answered your queries with all the information you required, please do not hesitate to write to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
