Suggest Treatment For Persistent Pain In The Legs
Question: I have this pain in my right leg. The pain is on the left side of the knee, just a little bit under the knee cap. It does not hurt when sitting, walking or laying down. It only hurts when jogging, running, going up/down stairs or carrying wait. I have iced it, taken ibuprofen and have rested it. What could be the cause? I can attach a picture of the area where the pain is.
Brief Answer:
Could be chonfromalacia Patella
Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel , Orthopedic surgeon.
You have pain in Right knee ( medial side ) and under surface of knee cap ( patella) , more on exertion.
This is very early stage of Osteoarthrosis where under surface of knee cap is affected. It does not show up in X rays , but only in MRI.
Treatment consists of building up quadriceps ( thigh muscles) so that stress is shared.Contact any physiotherapist to learn the exercises.
Painkillers can be taken as and when required.
Thanx for the question.

The pain is just to the left of the knee cap, not quite in the middle. If I touch it medium to hard it hurts a little, but it does not hurt at all when walking, only more intense activities.
Also, the toe to the left of my big toe on my left foot will not bend as normally as the other toes. I was told once it might be arthritis, but standard prednisone and NSAID treatments did not help and it is getting more painful. What type of surgery would help that toe to bend and not hurt so much?
Thanks!

Detailed Answer:
Hi , I am Dr Gopal Goel , Orthopedic Surgeon.
As far as the knee pain is considered , it is same condition called chondromalaciae Patellae as per the clinical picture. There are variations in presentation , that you have.
For the big 2nd toe , it could be trigger toe. I suggest examination by an orthopedic surgeon to confirm the diagnosis. It might require local injections of steroid or surgical intervention. If diagnosis is not confirmed on clinical examination- them MRI can be done.
Thanks for the question.
