Suggest Treatment For Persistent Throat Pain
Considerations
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for sending the question.
I agree with your doctor. This sounds like a viral type of syndrome. Viruses can sometimes affect the soft tissue in the back of the throat in the area of the tonsils and just behind the tonsils in what we refer to as lymphoid tissue.
I suspect that you are experiencing inflammation related to a viral type of infection. while the infection may be gone, there still may be some residual inflammation. It may take several weeks for this to completely resolve and for you to be absent of any discomfort or pain.
I generally recommend that patients try taking some Ibuprofen every eight hours as needed which might help with some of the pain that you are experiencing. You might consider taking 400 to 600 mg of ibuprofen three times a day after food for next 2-3 days.
In addition I would recommend that you stay very well hydrated, maintain good nutrition and get plenty of rest. This will help your body gradually heal.
Thank you again for sending a question. Do let me know in case of any further queries.
Sincerely,
Dr. Galamaga
