Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.
I would like to know that how did this difficulty in interpreting start? Was it acute in onset or did it start gradually?
Of course, in the setting of vascular dementia, its better to get him physically examined by a neurologist. If its acute onset, it may be the possibility of another vascular event.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

To answer your query as to whether the symptom was acute or did it start gradually, my observation is that it started gradually but I did not recognize it so much as a new symptom until it was blatant; i.e., he would stand and look at objects as though he did not know what they were. Also, he began to actually ask me what common things were.
Thank you, doctor.
Thank you, doctor.
Brief Answer:
Metabolic abnormalities/brain imaging
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being in follow up.
I have gone through the details you mentioned.
These symptoms mandate to rule out metabolic abnormalities like sugar, electrolytes, creatinine and liver enzymes.Adequate hydration is must.Depending on the neurological examination,an EEG and a brain MRI might be needed as well.
If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow up.
