Question: My X-husband has always had a drinking problem. He has had problems with depression and has been on antidepressants for years. A few years ago he said he was diagnosed with pheochromocytoma. His symptoms were heavy perspiration, light headedness, nausea. Tests showed high levels of norepinephrine in his urine. He never had surgery, yet he never mentions this now. Yesterday he told me he has 1 month to live because his doctor is fairly certain he has stomach cancer. His symptoms are the same as above. When he came to talk about it he was slurring his words and walking very slowly as it he was afraid he would fall. He says he no longer drinks. He also said though that he has never had a DUI, yet I know that he was in jail for DUI for several days 2 years ago. We have a 17 year old son. I don't want to just dismiss what he says, but I don't believe it's true. My question is, are his symptoms consistent with alcoholism? I think that's the problem and I'm afraid he's going to end up dying from this --- he's totaled almost every car he's owned. The last time he said he had a seizure from "meds' he was on. He went over a cement divider and totaled the car, yet walked away with bruises. Recently he was on a highway and said someone sideswiped his car at roughly 45-60 miles per hour. He said he didn't feel it "because they were going the same speed", but the whole side of his car is dented. My son believes him. I feel like I'm too close to the situation to be objective, however reading this I realize it sounds crazy. If this sounds like alcoholism I'm assuming there's nothing I can do unless he admits he needs help.
