Question: When I squat my knee now and then gets "stuck"...I can not stand back up, the knee POPS when I do get it to bend again(once I remove my weight from it)., and there is pain with the POP. I'm of a healthy weight, 5'3'', 115lbs, very active....what might be the problem? I've had this 4-5 times in the past 6 weeks. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Little bit more information will be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.Your symptoms are suggestive of injury to meniscus (C shape washer) or cruciate ligament (rope holding bones of knee together).

To help you better please tell me -
1.Do you have instability of knee with difficulty in climbing down stairs and brisk walking?
2.Is there any locking of knee with inability to fully straighten/bending the knee?
3.Any injury to knee?
MRI is the recommended investigation.

Looking forward to your reply.
Take care

To help you better please tell me -
1.Do you have instability of knee with difficulty in climbing down stairs and brisk walking? Answer...No to BOTH
2.Is there any locking of knee with inability to fully straighten/bending the knee?
Answer...It will "Lock' now and then when bent with weight on it, no locking with straight, or bending WITHOUT weight.
3.Any injury to knee? No Injury.....
Today before I contacted you , my right knee locked up while i was squatting down to pick up an item from the floor. I had to remove the weight, by sitting on the floor, before I could straighten it back out...now it is not painful, although when fully extended (w/o weight) it feels "tight"....

MRI is the recommended investigation..... :( I was thinking this might be the answer.... any excersize I could to the strengthen the knee? I did have the Meniscus on the other knee "trimed" a few years ago, after an injury. That knee was in constant pain...this one is not in pain other than when it "LOCKS". Thanks

Brief Answer:
Yes,you can do muscle strengthening exercises

Detailed Answer:
Hello
You are welcome
I regret for the delay, there was some network problem.I have gone through your reply carefully and the main symptom of meniscus injury is frequent locking of knee.
You can reach to conclusion by getting knee examined along with MRI.
Meanwhile you may do muscle strengthening exercises for knee along with hot water fomentation and ibuprofen will be helpful.
Avoid squatting and cross leg sitting.

Please revert back with the advised investigation.
Regards
