Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: Hi

On wednesday I had a surgical tooth extraction but my jaw and mouth still hurts. I have been having around 4 tablets of paracetamol a day for four days is that ok? I also am on antibiotics 625mg 1 3 times a day.
Is this pain normal?

Brief Answer:
Post surgical pain, ibuprofen, serratiopeptidase, saline gargling

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the pain following surgical removal of a tooth is concerned, it can be because of the soft tissue and hard tissue injury while removing the tooth(post surgical inflamatory pain). Nothing to be panic, you can take an analgesic like ibuprofen with an anti inflammatory drug like serratiopeptidase along with paracetamol (if you are not allergic). Paracetamol is a weak analgesic so you can take the above said medicine. Do saline gargling. Pain should come down in 3 days. If there us no relief even after taking these medicines, then consult a oral maxillofacial surgeon and get it evaluated.
I hope I have answered your query. If any queries are there reply me back.
Take care.
