Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your query.
As you have mentioned, it can be a muscle pull or cramp. But the symptoms are also common in early changes of osteoarthritis etc. Hence the chances have to be ruled out. If a patient presents to me with such symptoms, I generally advise the following-

Avoid sqatting, crossed legged sitting.
Reduction of body weight if one is obese.
Xray of both knee standing AP and Lateral view.
Blood test for blood sugar and uric acid.
Local application of painkiller gels or oral painkillers like aceclofenac-thiocolchicoside combination or paracetamol-tramadol combination.
Quadriceps drill.
Hot compression 2-3 times daily.

If you are unable to see a doctor right away, you can use over the counter pain medication such as ibuprofen 400mg twice daily. It should help in treating pain. Make arrangements to visit your orthopedic surgeon.

Hope this was useful.
Consult me for any further queries.
Regards.

Ok one more for you....you said blood test for blood sugar and uric acid. Why? Also i am 5'2 and weigh 121.... Do i need a reduction in weight? And does that help with pinpointing anything?

Brief Answer:
Follow as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Sorry for late reply.

First of all, if you are 5'2" and weigh 121lbs, you need not reduce weight but maintain the current one. With your height, this weight falls more or less in normal range.
Now, if it is a pulled muscle, it will get well with the exercise and medication. However, if not, high blood sugar or uric acid can be common causes of joint pain. So, these tests can rule out such possibilities.
Otherwise, if by chance found positive, specific treatment can be done accordingly.

Hope this answers.
Regards.
