I do have a pulmonolgist and take spiriva a symbicort with albeuteral prn. I am on 02 at 3l. At the moment I am on levequin and steroids as I picked up a pneumonia. I have been able to manage myself without hospitalization except for in late 2013 when I had a spontaneous pneumo and it was then that I started copd interventions. I am learning to cope but a bit stubborn about accepting I can not get better. The hype around stem cell makes it very tempting to try. But I can't seem to find anyone other than those selling it to give me much encouagement. Is it our usual scientific cautiousness that will delay it hitting mainstream? If it won't work why not? Why are we not progressing on curative treatments other than the mechanistic replace it approach ? I am implementing all the management I terventions such as diet exercise and hydration and have not smoked for almost 3 years. Just not good at accepting that things can't be improved if we will not accept the status quo and really try. Seems like the focus is always to throw a med at something to treat symptoms or cut it out and replace it. Any other ideas or suggestions? Most common cause of COPD is cigarette smoking. And incidence is much higher in female smokers. This is the reason why there is written warning on all cigarette packets. And idea and understanding of saying 'prevention is better than cure' lies true when it comes to COPD or other smoking related organ damage.
I am not criticising you or have bad feelings for you. But when you say that doctors are not progressing in curative treatment and give only drugs and replacement, I must say that we doctors did not tell you to smoke in the past. You yourself started smoking despite of warning on cigarette packets.
Anyways sorry for being harsh.
Other than smoking cessation and inhaled drugs following things should be done in COPD patients.
1. Adult Pulmonary vaccination
2. Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
