- Diuretics are drugs that generally cause excess elimination of fluid by the kidneys. Diuretics are used in pulmonary hypertension to reduce blood volume and reduce pressure, thus relieving the patients at the level of the lungs.
- Depending on the intensity, supplementation in oxygen supply could be required at some time, if your doctor thinks that the condition is sufficiently serious, or is failing to respond to other known standard therapies.
- Some drugs called Calcium Channel blockers, widely available can also be used in pulmonary hypertension. These drugs shall reduce stiffness during muscle contraction, permitting a freer flow of blood and reducing pulmonary hypertension.
- Newer treatments include prostacyclin analogues, endothelin receptor antagonists, and phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors.

The prognosis actually depends on the gravity at time of diagnosis and appropriate reception of treatment. People diagnosed who do not receive any treatment in this respect generally die within the next five years.
Appropriate treatment, especially early within the course of the illness has very positive results and improve remarkably quality of life.
