Suggest Treatment For Rashes And Itching Sensation In The Groin Area
My Husband has developed some rashes in his crotch/groin area. There is no pain as such but there is an itching sensation. The rashes are present since last week. He is regularly washing the area with Dettol water and then applying betnovate C and boroline, but they do not seem to be helpful.
Earlier also he faced this issue. Actually there are many stretch marks in his crotch area and the rashes are developing in that area. Attached the picture herewith. Please suggest some cream
fungal infection; oral and topical antifungals
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
i have gone through your and i have also reviewed the images.
Your husband has fungal infection. Stretch marks are due to previous steroid abuse.
Stetch marks are permanent and would not improve withh any medication.
The cream that he uses i.e betnovate c contains a potent topical steroid and should not be used in this region.
I would suggest that he uses a plain antifungal e.g clotrimazole 1 % cream i.e clotrin cream, twice daily.
In addition i would also suggest weekly fluconazole 150 mg for 4-6 weeks.
An otc oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily will provide symptomatic relief from itching.
Oral and topical antifungals are prescription medications and therefore i suggest that he visits a dermatologist in vicinity for a confirmatory diagnosis as well as for the needful.
Regards
like daily once , 1 tab? or weekly once..?
Also please advice if we can apply Candid powder after applying clotrin cream ?
weekly fluconazole & topical antifungal cream
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Fluconazole is once in a week e.g every sunday, for 4-6 weeks.
Can use antifungal dusting powder, during the day, after 3-4 hours of applying antifungal cream.
Antifungal powder is basically to keep the area dry and therefore inhibit growth of fungus.
Let the cream act for 3-4 hours and then use powder.
Avoid betnovate c because it contains a potent steroid and is responsible for skin thinning and stretch marks.

Clotrin cream is not available in any of the shops in my vicinity.
Can I use Candid 20 mg cream?
I checked that has the same composition as well...
Topical and Oral antifungal
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
These creams are essentially the same.
You may use either of these under supervision of your local doctor. Follow up with your doctor every 2 weeks.
Along with the topical cream I had also suggested for him an oral antifungal e.g weekly fluconazole tablets and once daily oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine.
Oral antifungal i.e fluconazole is a prescription medication and just like any other medication i advice your husband to take it under supervision of a local doctor.
Oral and topical antifungals together will be more effective for his skin condition.
