Brief Answer:
infection likely cause but need to be assessed by your doctor

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are different possible cause of rectal bleeding such as:
(1) infection- this would cause diarrhea as well. Infection can be viral or bacterial but bacterial would most commonly cause blood to be seen.

Though the diarrhea has stopped, bleeding may remain because the bowel is still slightly inflamed

(2)Cancer- this would be the main worry for most persons seeing blood in the stool.

If you've had a screening colonoscopy within the last few years (normally done every 8 to 10 yrs), then this is not likely

If this is not the case, then though infection is the most likely cause of the blood, you should still be screened to rule this out

(3)hemorrhoids- if it is bright red blood mixed seen on wiping, this is possible

(4)diverticulitis- this is inflammation of diverticula which are present in the colon.

Common with aging. They are little 'pockets' or 'outpouches' that form in the bowel. They can become inflamed or infected causing bleeding

(5) inflammatory bowel disease- crohns or ulcerative colitis- there would have likely been a previous history of one of these conditions

(6)anal fissure- this is a 'cut' in this region- would cause very painful bowel movements

The first 4 are the main causes of blood in the stool for you. It would be best to see your doctor .
Though infection is the likely cause, your doctor would need to examine your abdomen and also do a rectal examination looking for cuts/fissure, hemorrhoids, feeling for any masses.

A stool sample would need to be sent to the lab and imaging of the bowel suggested if you have not been screened recently.
This imaging would look for diverticular disease , cancer, inflammation

The treatment would depend on the cause found

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
