Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
Rectal bleeding can be caused by a number of things, most commonly a rectal tear (such as from having a hard bowel movement) or irritated hemorrhoids. Bleeding can also be from a problem higher up in the digestive tract including if there is a polyp in the colon.
If it is a lot of blood, although it could still be from a tear or hemorrhoids, it is a good idea to get this checked promptly. So consider going in to the ER tonight to have this evaluated.
I hope this information helps.

This is the third time in six weeks that this is happened to my husband. It lasts a couple of days and there's a lot of blood it's bright red
Brief Answer:
He needs to be seen
Detailed Answer:
He needs to go in to be seen in person, and best to do this while the bleeding is occurring. The doctor can have a look to see if there are any abnormalities in his rectum (fissures, hemorrhoids) and if nothing is wrong there, he should have a colonoscopy.
