Suggest Treatment For Recurrent UTI

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Oct 2014
Question: I have just finished a 7 day course of macrobid for a recurrent uti. The symptoms are worse instead of better went from pelvic pressure to pelvic pain and frequency to urinate. And when I do urinate it seems to be a slow and weak urine stream. I can't take bactrim due to allergy and cipro doesn't work on me. I do have a culture in the works, waiting on results. I was also given doxycycline this past wed as well, piggybacking the macrobid and doxy but still in pain. What can I do?

Brief Answer:
Detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Urine culture is the best you can do right now. Taking 3 different antibiotics without knowing which bacteria is causing it sounds more like an experiment than a treatment.
What you should do right now is to wait for urine culture result. This will answer which bacteria is the factor and which antibiotic will be the best to treat it. You should also have been tested for possible diabetes.
In a meanwhile please increase mineral water intake and start cranberries supplementation.
If you do have had any intercourse during the treatment please note that it may also be the reason of uti recurrence, therefore please remember to urinate right after every intercourse.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
