Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Cellulitis, Extreme Edema And Foot Deofrmation
My sister is in a long term care center for her psychiatric care and medical care. She is suffering from recurring cellulitis, and extreme edema of her lower extremities, has never been seen in the last four years by a specialist in infectious disease. Her feet are now deformed ankles extremely pronated, and arches fallen.
Is she in danger of having her feet amputated?
Treatment of Cellulitis is most important.

HI
Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic.
I went through your query and can understand your concern. Among celllulitis and foot deformation , the cellulitis issue is more important as , if unattended it can spread fast and can become lethal.
She needs a proper care by a Physician or surgeon if not by Infectious disease specialist. She needs to be started on proper Antibiotics ( preferably Injections) and made sure that cellulitis is controlled. If required a small incision over the leg to drain out the pus may also be required.
Her foot deformation is due to her not being ambulatory. Once Cellulitis is cured she can be given Limb Physiotherapy and with application of casts it can be corrected .
But most important is to treat her Cellulitis , make her ambulatory and improve her nutrition status. If this is not taken care it's not just Amputation her life might even be at risk .
Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.
Regards.
