Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Diarrhea While Having IBS

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: I have been taking antibiotic Flagyl for c diff which was caused by an antibiotic Clindemyicin taken in Sept. I started Flagyl on Nov 22nd and took thru 12/6. My symptoms of diarrhea seemed to get much better, but on Dec 11th I began having diarrhea again, mainly after having 3 or 4 bowel movements. In order to be able to go out for shopping etc. I have been taking 1/2 -1 Immodium daily which has kept diarrhea under control. I had asked my dr for a "retest" on the c diff and she told me it was too soon after finishing the Flagyl. When could I get a "re test" and is there anything else I can do to bring this under control? I also have IBS which is the reason I did not seek attention when this first began back in August. Suggestions appreciated.

Brief Answer:
IBS flare likely

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. History of clostridium difficile colitis followed by use of clindamycin treated with flagyl followed by improvement and recurrence after a month with a loose motions with IBS in history is either a recurrence for C difficile which is unlikely or just an IBS flare secondary to recent diet and lifestyle changes.

Your doctor is right. Wait for the re evaluation of c difficile . Take small frequent meals, avoid dairy and fatty products, processed meals, canned foods, spices, alcohol, soda, beer etc. Use more fiber and fluids, and peppermint and yogurt to your every meal.

If the problems still persist for more than a week get a stool evaluation for C difficile then , it will sort it out. I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.
