Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Infection After Treating Bacterial Vaginitis And Ureaplasma
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Its been 3 weeks since I completed a 7day dose of Doxycycline and Clindamycin (vaginal cream) to clear bacterial vaginitis and ureaplasma. 2 days ago I had intercourse with my partner and it seems like the BV is back because of the watery-like discharge I am experiencing.I was told by my doctor that this is BV and Ureaplasma is not considered an STI but It appears I keep getting this infection when I have sex with my partner. A month ago I was also diagnosed with Cervicitis and thankfully the Trich/gonorrhea/cylamdia results were negative. Is it possible for my partner to pass this bacteria to me? What does it mean when someone says the bacteria can be introduced by the environment? I am experiencing pain pressure again when I have intercourse. Could this be related to the cervicitis? Could the repeated BV infection be caused by my partner?
Brief Answer:
Due to re infection by partner.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The commonest cause of recurrence of bacterial vaginosis is the reinfection by the partner. In case of bacterial vaginosis, complete treatment of both the partners is necessary to prevent this re infection.
The symptoms that you have now are due to vaginosis and less likely to be due to cervicitis. Do get your partner treated this time.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you for your response. My doctor mentioned that BV isn't sexually transmitted. However, It only seems to be reoccurring when I have sex with my partner. So I am quite confused with this statement. How can my partner pass me this infection?
Brief Answer:
Can be a mixed infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
It is usually the superadded fungal infection that is transmitted by your partner that causes these symptoms. A mixed infection is usually detected in recurrent cases. Getting a high vaginal swab culture will help in establishing a proper diagnosis. Recurrent sex with multiple partners is one of the risk factors of recurrent vaginosis.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thank you. That makes sense. I tend to have both vaginitis and yeast. Does my partner need to get treated if he is passing on a fungal infection? Wouldn't he have symptoms? Sorry just curious.
One more thing to add to my previous question. If my partner passes me a fungal infection does this cause the vaginitis?

Brief Answer:
Such infections are asymptomatic in males.
Detailed Answer:
Your partner also needs treatment so that you do not have a recurrent infection. Such infections are usually asymptomatic in males.
You can get vaginitis from your partner.
